So how does it work and what might it cost?
You choose the expedition you wish to book onto. Numbers will be limited to a maximum of 6 guests, so early booking will be advisable.
You chose which cabin and budget option you like, depending upon availability.
There are 4 cabins to choose from made up as 2 x doubles and 2 x twins.
When you find the expedition you want to book onto and when you book your travel we will meet you at the shore with the tender and transfer you the boat or you will transfer yourself to the boat on the marina. MV Playmate will either be on a mooring or at anchor in a harbour or sheltered bay or alongside in a marina.
Paddle and explore the highlights of the coast by day and retreat to your welcoming home for the week in the evening, where light refreshments will be waiting for you before a tasty dinner later that evening. Enjoy a drink or perhaps watch the sun setting on one of the 3 decks. The aft deck will have the option of being covered in so you can full enjoy being outside ‘inside’.
MV Playmate was built in 1989. With 2 Caterpillar 3208 engines and 52 feet of length to power us thorough the water, this is our 2015 / 2016 project. To date we have had the boat taken out of the water into Holyhead Boatyard, where we have had all the hull checked and anti fouled. The propellers have been removed, cleaned and polished. The bearings, anodes and prop shafts have been checked, cleaned and / or replaced and the engines have even been realigned.
Currently the engines and batteries are having a complete overhaul and all safety requirements are being exceeded. We had a MCA survey done and it is all systems go.
We are converting the roof of the aft deck boat into a racking system to carry 6 or 8 kayaks, which will be provided for your use during the week. We also provide carbon Celtic paddles and Reed Chillcheater PFD / BAs if required.
In 2017 this once again luxury motor yacht will be your home for the week. We will base the boat in Scotland and you get to choose which fully catered expedition you book onto. We will meet you on the boat where your cabin and a kayak will be waiting for you!
Oban and the Scottish West Coast taking in Mull, Treshnish and Corryvreckan

Whisky Distillery Tour Island expedition
A sea kayak expedition like no other! Whisky distillery tour - visiting a selection of the stunning islands and distilleries Scotland has to offer. At time of writing the price of this tour will not include entry into any of the distilleries. The distilleries offer different levels of tour ranging from about £6 - £40 depending which kind of tour and also as weather limitations may implicate which distilleries we can visit. However this may change depending on what we think is possible to offer!
Prices from £650 per person (full board)
The Outer Hebrides & St KIlda
Get to see and paddle the most spectacular parts of the Outer Hebrides. Explore the best by day and travel on that evening or in the morning to the next best area! Highlights include St Kilda - the jewel! Monach islands, Shiants, Barra Head and Mingalay. We will be able to explore as much of this stunning island chain as time and weather permits.
For the trip out to St Kilda we will use the same super turbo RIB with kayak rack for carrying our kayaks, that we use for our camping based expeditions. After years of experience travelling to St Kilda Nigel has opted for this due to the wild nature of the sea. With unpredictable weather and often big swells, this is the best option to ensure we give our guests the most enjoyable experience, maximising the time we have available. We don't want to put ypu in a position where you may be rolling around for hours being sea sick! The RIB ensures we will be at St Kilda in under 2 hours (the only faster way to get there is by helicopter! With only one mooring available in Village Bay at St Kilda, we are confident that this maximised your comfort and ensures we include as much as possible in our Outer Hebrides adventure. as the RIB is parked direxty onto wall where we can load and unload the kayaks in the most protected area. We also have a safety boaty on stand by should it ever be necessary during our St Kilda circumnavigation and exploration.
Depending where we decide to set out from for the Outer Hebrides -
Prices from £950 / £1100 (full board)
This price will include the journey to the Outer Hebrides on MV Playmate and also the return RIB ride with kayak to the most Westerly part of the UK - the magical and ancient St Kilda.
There would also be an option with a reduced price to join the expedition directly from the Outer Hebrides
